Bambu ABS Refill

📡 RFID on Bambu Lab Spools

Bambu Lab spools have RFID tags that enable:

  • Efficient stock and logistics management.
  • Quick identification of spools in a warehouse or during transport.
  • Faster inventory and reduced errors.
  • Monitoring of usage history.
  • Increased efficiency and security in traceability processes.

🔥 Bambu ABS Refill

Bambu Lab ABS Refill is an engineering material designed for resistant, functional, and highly durable parts. It offers good thermal resistance and impact strength, making it ideal for mechanical components, technical enclosures, functional prototypes, and everyday parts. The Refill version comes without a disposable spool, ready to be used with Bambu's reusable spool.

♻️ What is Refill?

Refill is a filament roll without a spool, designed to be more economical and environmentally friendly. Simply fit the roll onto Bambu's reusable spool, secure it with the side caps, and start printing.

🔹 What makes ABS special?

  • High thermal resistance — withstands higher temperatures than PLA.
  • Good impact resistance — ideal for functional parts.
  • Can be post-processed — compatible with acetone vapor smoothing for a smooth finish.
  • High durability — suitable for technical and mechanical use.
  • Compatible with AMS and AMS Lite for multicolor printing.
  • Diameter: 1.75 mm ± 0.03 mm

✅ Advantages of Refill

  • More economical — reduced price compared to the version with a spool.
  • More sustainable — less disposable plastic.
  • Practical — always use the same reusable spool.
  • You can even 3D print your own spool.

⚙️ Printing Parameters

  • Extrusion temperature: 240 – 270 °C
  • Heated bed: 90 – 110 °C
  • Layer fan: 0 – 30%
  • Print speed: 40 – 120 mm/s

💡 Notes and Recommendations

  • Enclosed printer recommended to reduce warping.
  • Use adhesive on the build plate for better adhesion.
  • Avoid drafts during printing.
  • Ideal for technical parts, supports, enclosures, and functional components.
💡 Note: this filament is available in Refill version (without spool), but is also available in with reusable spool version.

Frequently asked questions

Does ABS Subink require an enclosed chamber for printing?

Yes, it is highly recommended. Recommended temperature: 230–270°C, bed at 95–110°C, fan off or reduced, speed 40–100 mm/s. Without an enclosed chamber, warping is common.

Can ABS be treated with acetone vapor for a glossy finish?

Yes. ABS dissolves in acetone, allowing for vapour smoothing for a glossy, smooth finish. This is one of the most common post-processing methods for this material.

What is the main advantage of ABS over PLA?

ABS supports higher temperatures (up to 90–100°C), is more impact-resistant, and easier to post-process by sanding, painting, or acetone, but is more demanding to print with.

How should I store Subink ABS filament?

Store in an airtight bag with desiccant in a dry place. ABS easily absorbs moisture, which causes bubbles, stringing, and poor layer adhesion during printing.
